Ahhh. Here we almost completely agree. My favorite Siegel film is probably Dirty Harry. That’s a near masterpiece. I love the Beguiled too. Fantastic film. I totally agree with your top eight, the only thing I would do differently would be to add Two Mules for Sister Sara and The Shootist to make it a four star top ten. But I can’t really argue with 3 1/2 stars either.
I really, really like Charley Varrick. I think it’s an underrated gem.
Sorry, If I make multiple posts of these. The problem is that I am always constantly evolving with my views on film and I just feel the need to make a new post of the same post. Nevertheless, I am glad you love this one as well 🙂 Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂
No. I understand. I think you try to be more objective than I do. I recently had a conversation with another film lover/blogger about objectivity. I’m a hobbyist. Film is a passion for me but I’m not highly educated on it. If I were, perhaps I could be more objective. My favorite films are not necessarily the best films–and I know that. I don’t think McCabe & Mrs. Miller is the best movie ever made but it is my favorite. That’s an important distinction for me and that’s why my film choices remain –generally–consistent. I respect your more intellectual position. It’s interesting. You are much more willing to reconsider your position and I’m assuredly more fixed. Of course I suspect I’m older too, so there’s that.
That may be the case, though one would never know it considering how many films I give * * * * and * * * 1/2 stars too 🙂 I consider myself educated on films, but I do not think I am ever going to top your average film historian. Nevertheless, you do sound fairly educated (like myself) on films. It is true that you are older than me, nevertheless, I think (I can’t say for sure) but I have a hunch that whatever list you see me compose in the future may be my final say on it, but I have to wait and see where my leanings go 🙂 The greatest thing that can happen for me after I finish my favorite films of directors lists is that I can then clearly focus on writing reviews for them. Man, I really love this conversation we are having 🙂 Once again, keep the comments coming 🙂
