I have seen “The Grandmaster” yet I only gave it * * 1/2 stars (Out of * * * *). The version I saw was the U.S. cut which chopped up twenty or thirty minutes of its original running time. I heard the international cut is 130 minutes. I hope that version is superior because the American cut feels uneven. Considering that Harvey Weinstein (the distributor is The Weinstein Company) made this decision I am not surprised. Despite his friendship with Quentin Tarantino, he has a history of clashing with other film directors. For example, although Jim Jarmusch won final cut rights on “Dead Man” (distributor was Miramax), Harvey Weinstein selfishly underpromoted it as a result. Their is also rumors that Weinstein compromised or chopped up Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York.
