I’m a big fan of ultra-realism so I really appreciate American Honey. Arnold reminds me a lot of one of my all time favorite directors, Sean Baker—though, I would think, Arnold inspired Baker since she’s been around longer.
I hear that Pam π One of the most interesting things about American Honey is that it deals with America from a geographical outsider’s point-of-view (Arnold is a Brit). As for Sean Baker, he is actually 10 years younger than she is – Arnold was born in 1961 and Baker was born in 1971. I am going to take a gander that he debatably looked up to her work as one of his many influences. I would also not be surprised If John Cassavetes served as another influence on the two π
No doubt…Cassavetes (also a big fan) definitely influenced both.
