of all these i have only seen his heredity and his remake of midsommer , both of which i liked very much.
I am afraid I have to disagree about the only two films on the list that I have seen. I thought both were over-hyped in the marketing, and was sadly disappointed by them. Here are my reviews of both.
I know that both are hugely popular and have legions of fans. But they left me wanting something fresh, something different.
Best wishes, Pete.
Pete, I am very sorry that you were not enthused by either Hereditary and Midsommar. I just left a reply under the two respective links that you gave me 🙂 You are entitled to your opinion though as always 🙂
Glad to hear that you really liked Hereditary and Midsommar Bill 🙂 I loved both of them and check out Beau Is Afraid because that is really something else 🙂
Thanks, John. I will read your comments.
Best wishes, Pete.
I’ve only seen Hereditary and Midsomer. I would put Hereditary as my number one. My issue with Midsomer is that instead of being brave enough to completely be its own thing, it borrowed way too heavily from the original Wicker Man.
I hear you Maddy 🙂 Nevertheless, I actually did not think that it’s Wicker Man influence tainted it’s originality at all. I actually see it as something spiritually influenced by The Wicker Man since the lead character is not a detective 🙂
Speaking of which, remember Edgar Wright’s 2007 action comedy Hot Fuzz? 🙂 Interesting piece of trivia (though you probably already knew this), Edward Woodward played the town professor in that. Hot Fuzz references The Wicker Man, which had Woodward played the Scottish police officer investigating a pagan cult 🙂 Thoughts? 🙂
I haven’t caught Beau Is Afraid yet – maybe the length has put me off. I don’t think I quite love Hereditary just yet – I like it a lot – but Midsomer is just wonderful, stunning in every way.
Beau Is Afraid is undeniably Ari Aster’s most polarizing film to date, but I am a champion of it 🙂 I love Hereditary as much as Midsommar 🙂 Nevertheless, as you can see, I placed Midsommar higher 🙂
