I have little regard for the rest of his films. For a time, he was among my favorite directors. but was very disappointed with The Last Emporer and everything that followed it.

  2. I am 100% in agreement with you about The Conformist. It is on my top ten films of all time list, and gets better every time I watch it.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Speaking of 1900 Bill, I believe the five-hour cut of that film first premiered on the now defunct Z Channel before it’s 1991 home video release πŸ™‚

  4. He had such an interesting career, from the controversial Last Tango In Paris, the success of The Last Emperor, right up to The Dreamers (which may be my favourite of his). As you suggest, The Conformist is excellent, and a film which frequently pops up on my work laptop as my desktop wallpaper as it has so many beautiful shots.

  5. Bernardo Bertolucci has had an interesting career as you so eloquently state carlosnightman πŸ™‚ The Dreamers is truly a late career masterpiece πŸ™‚ The Conformist serves as a perfect example of a visual masterpiece πŸ™‚
