I don’t recall many from the list except the silent film ‘Greed’. I saw it in my teens, and thought it was very good. But Fifty years later, I don’t remember it that well. 🙂

In terms of excess (and I do not mean that in a negative or positive way), the closest he had as an heir in that field was possibly the late Michael Cimino (especially with his misunderstood masterpiece Heaven’s Gate).
