* * * * (Out of * * * *)
1. La Commune (Paris, 1871) (2000)
2. Edward Munch (1974)
3. The War Game (1965)
(British TV Film)
4. Punishment Park (1971)
5. Culloden (1964)
(a.k.a. The Battle of Culloden)
(British TV Film)
6. Privilege (1967)
7. The Gladiators (1969)
The War Game and Culloden are two of the best TV dramas of all time, so would be my 1 and 2, in any order.
(Have you ever seen ‘Threads’ ? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090163/
Superb.)
Best wishes, Pete.
Speaking of The War Game, I read that cult filmmaker Alex Cox is a huge fan of the film and given the subjects he is interested in not only as a filmmaker, but in his political affiliation, it makes perfect sense. And yes, I have seen Threads. Quite a chilling film, but given the topic, that was the only way to possibly tell it. I remember that director Mick Jackson recalled in a interview that his previous BBC films were always met with praise from friends and workers, but in the case of Threads, it was anything but. Nevertheless, screenwriter Barry Hines received a letter of praise from then Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock (who served from 1983-1992). I got all of this information here in case you are interested. Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂
