I have posted a youtube video link below to Moviedrome presenter Alex Cox’s introduction to French filmmaker Henri-Georges Clouzot’s classic 1955 psychological horror thriller Diabolique. Readers can also read Cox’s intro transcript here. The episode’s original airdate was June 29, 1992 (read here). Not much to add here except to say that I agree completely with all of the praise Cox showers on this true masterpiece of horror. If any of you readers are interested, here is a link to my favorite Henri-Georges Clouzot films (read here).

Fantastic post as usual, John. This is why Moviedrome was so brilliant because it introduced some amazing films I had never seen before. Diabolique was such an amazing film too!
Alex Cox nails the appeal of Les Diabloiques in one succinct sentence. “This is a real film, directed by a real film director.”
A brilliant film, and world’s apart from the remake. I featured both versions on my blog.
Best wishes, Pete.
Hi John,
THanks for posting this. It is very timely since TCM will be showing Diabolique next Sunday as part of TCM Imports!
Why thank you for the kind words Paul π You are also right about Diabolique π Anyway, thanks for dropping by π
You got that right Paul S π Anyway, thanks for dropping by π
I totally agree with you Pete π I also remember the nice reply you gave to my comment when I commented on your wonderful post π Anyway, thanks for dropping by π
Ohh that sounds awesome π Anyway, thanks for dropping by Mitchell π
It’s just a shame I got the title of the film wrong! I must apologise for my atrocious typing.
“Itβs just a shame I got the title of the film wrong! I must apologise for my atrocious typing.”
To Paul S: Actually you got the title correct π Les Diaboliques is the French title, whereas in the US (and maybe your territory too) it was released under the name “Diabolique” π
Another one I missed!
I assume everyone who loves it doesn’t mind reading French subtitles?
Just curious…..
A lot of them probably don’t, but check it is a great one π Anyway, thanks for dropping by π
Nice blog
Hi John, I’ve seen this film a couple of times, though not recently, and it is great. Pure Hitchcock with a French twist. I have a copy on DVD and should drag it out of the mothballs. π
Diabolique is undoubtedly a great film John π I read that Henri-Georges Clouzot was complimented when somebody compared him to Alfred Hitchcock π Interesting isn’t it? π Speaking of which, do you have the Criterion edition of the Diabolique on DVD? π Anyway, thanks for dropping by π
