Moviedrome Mondays: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) (Mark Cousins intro)

I have posted a youtube video link below to Moviedrome presenter Mark Cousins introduction to late director Michael Cimino’s 1974 crime comedy Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. Readers can also read Cousins intro transcript here. The episode’s original airdate was November 1, 1998 (read here). Not much to add here except that I concur with Cousins completely on this one. If any of you readers are interested, here is a list of my favorite Michael Cimino films (read here).

  1. I haven’t seen this film so I can’t say anything about it.
John, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the 4 hour version of Blood Ties when you’ve watched it.
After that, for the next polizotteschis you watch I think you should return to Tomas Milian. I think you should watch the two sequels to Tough Cop which are La Banda Del Trucido and La Banda Del Gobbo.
La Banda Del Trucido from 1977 is on yotube but you’ll have to switch on English Auto Translate to watch it.
La Banda Del Gobbo from 1978 directed by Umberto Lenzi is on youtube but unfortunately has no English options, not even Auto Translate. Maybe you can just watch it in Italian and see what you think of it.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on these two films too.

  2. I agree with you and Mark Cousins on this one. A lot of people seem to look for themes that aren’t there, rather than enjoy Thunderbolt and Lightfoot for what it is.
