  1. Wow, you saw that short film that Kenneth Anger co-directed with Nico B. back in 2000 as well 🙂 As for the book itself and I know it is basically a perfect example of a love it or hate it book, it is the type of work that could have only been done by Kenneth Anger himself. In the hands of another provocateur, debatably not so much.

  2. You have incredible knowledge about films and film makers I’ve never even heard of John.
Frankly, I confess that I don’t even know that much about Westerns.
However I never my ignorance stand in the way.
And I bet I could out draw you too! LOL.

  3. I actually think you know lots about westerns jcalberta 🙂 I think it was a while back, but you once said something interesting implying that you rank the Anthony Mann/James Stewart western collaborations (Winchester ’73 and The Far Country to name just two) than the John Wayne ones 🙂 I bet when I get to ranking my favorite Sam Peckinpah films on here (I love them all) that blog entry is bound to go down as one of your many favorites 🙂 Thoughts? 🙂

  4. Kind of you my friend.
Right NOW there is a sudden avalanche of New Westerns. (Let’s hope it’s not a flash flood) Most of them look like crap to me though, but even in the heyday of Westerns (the 50’s?) there was a lot more bad than good.
“Wayne”? I do say that once he became the box office Superstar that most of his films were uninspired formula: John Wayne Films. Too bad because he was capable of good work.
“Peckinpah”!? Here I wonder if his better work wasn’t ahead of him? Still despite his drinking and irascible nature created a fistful of Western Classics. ‘Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid’ is my favorite – despite it’s strange history of being butchered.
    I better stop here …
    Carry on!
