I’m struggling to remember any of those listed, John. I doubt I have seen any of them.
Best wishes, Pete.
Along with Ida Lupino, Dorothy Arzner was one of the scant few female directors during the Classical Hollywood era. The difference between Lupino and Arzner is that the former was also an actress š
Merrily We Go To Hell is my favourite. Such a brilliant director.
Same here Maddy š Nice to see somebody else, who has not only heard of Dorothy Arzner, but has seen her works as well š Merrily We Go To Hell is just one of many perfect examples of Pre-Code Hollywood at it’s finest š Also, Dance, Girl, Dance deserves to be seen as one of the most intelligent comedy-dramas of the 1940’s to focus on female friendship and the inevitable trials and tribulations š
She should be so much better known today, along with so many other greats from the Silent and Pre-Code era.
It’s such a brilliant and heartbreaking look at alcoholism and a difficult marriage.
