  1. I love Fassbinder’s work but I have so many more of his films to see! My favourite so far of his has been Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. Very touching, relevant, and timeless story.

  2. Fassbinder is another new name to me. It sounds like he had a supernova career- 41 films in a 14-year period!

  3. Ali: Fear Eats the Soul is a great one. Did you know that the film is an homage to the Douglas Sirk melodramas of the 1950’s? 🙂 Interesting isn’t it? 🙂 Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂

  4. I feel like you’re always reading my mind. I was just talking about Fox and His Friends and I searched everywhere to ‘rent’ it (stream it online) but none of the services seem to carry it. In fact their back catalogues are fairly abysmal. I hope they catch up soon.

  5. John, Berlin Alexanderplatz is the only one of Fassbinder’s films I’ve seen. I liked it, but more as a look at Weimar through German eyes than as entertaining cinema. Cabaret has a place, of course, but Berlin Alexanderplatz is more serious.

Which of your other four-star Fassbinders should I watch next? Alan

  6. I would suggest my first two choices under the * * * * star films, but as with a majority of his work, they stand highly controversial. His homage to Douglas Sirk entitled Ali: Fear Eats the Soul is probably one I would highly recommend to watch next though. Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂

  7. That is weird since the Criterion Collection just released it back in January of this year. Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂

  8. I am wondering where ‘The Marriage of Maria Braun’ is on your list……..

  9. The Marriage of Maria Braun is good but as with Effi Briest, it comes off as little more than straight forward compared to his greatest films. Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂
